When
our daughter drug him home in April, 1994, we told
her to get rid of him because we didn't want to
have a big dog around.
A
very short time later, after Rick
woke up in the hospital, we were told that Capone may have saved his life during a stroke.
When Rick returned home from the hospital six
weeks later, guess who was waiting.
They've
been together almost every single day and night
since. 'Pone saw him through it all! The
wheel chair, the walkers, the crutches, braces, therapy,
family &
friends disappearing, loneliness,
depression, EVERYTHING!!!
They
became inseparable. Rick and
I actually left our daughters wedding party in
Vegas a day early, just so they could be
together. As always, we fought about it.
At some point, we found out from our insurance
agent while having our homeowners insurance
canceled that he was a Pit Bull. Apparently, our
family, friends, neighbors, insurance carrier,
meter reader, delivery men, etc. didn't want a Pit
Bull around and let us know it!
They
believed that 'Pone was vicious; and who could
blame them with all of the negative publicity singling
out Pit Bulls in the media. Among many other
gruesome stories, we actually caught him playing leap
frog with a toad in a bean field once.
Being
a black sheep himself, it only made Rick love
him more! 'Pone was a misunderstood Teddy Bear. It wasn't his
fault that he was a Pit Bull. To Rick, 'Pone was simply a Poodle from the wrong side
of the tracks. While others felt fear; we
felt unconditional love, innocence, and devotion.
He NEVER did anything wrong, EVER!!!
We keep telling ourselves that he was just a dog,
but it isn't working. Rick truly believes that 'Pone was sent to him from
God to be his Guardian Angel!!! We really miss
him!!!

May
he rest in peace knowing that he earned his wings;
we hope to be with him again someday.
He
couldn't change the look of his eyes anymore than
you can change the color of your skin.
He couldn't even walk or stand to eat,
yet everyone was still afraid of him!
Do
you see sad or mean? The picture below was taken
shortly before his death. He was 14 1/3 yrs
old. (100+ in dog years).
May
today there be peace within you. May you
trust God that you are exactly where you are meant
to be. I believe that pets are quiet angels who
lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble
remembering how to fly.
